Why Am I Soooo Excited About the Premiere of Dirt….

Starring Mark Pasetsky Courteney Cox.  Bitch She Stole My Role!

Check out an excerpt from this recent NY Magazine article and you’ll see what I mean…(DRAMA IS ON!)

“COVERAWARDS WITH MARK PASETSKY”

“Remember Mark Pasetsky? The reportedly feng shui–loving, foundation-wearing, and alleged inspiration for Courteney Cox’s Dirt editor “resigned” from Bauer Publishing’s Life & Style last fall and went back to his job in marketing, but, apparently, he’s not feeling entirely fulfilled…The confirmed cowboy-hat lover has started a blog that is fascinating and gross and wonderful all at once, like a silkworm.

It’s called Cover Awards, and on it Pasetsky weighs in on the covers of various weekly magazines, noting what he would have done differently…Click, don’t scroll, your browser to this hot new site immediately. www.CoverAwards.com.”

FYI - This is a picture of Courteney.

And this is a picture of me (without that goofy looking Cowboy hat). We both have dark hair!

And a picture of me with my dog Rocco! (Isn’t he cute!)

Tune in to this season’s hot premiere Sunday, March 2 at 10:00 p.m. on FX. I know Courteney won’t let me down!

To the producers of the show, I’ll do that guest appearance, but I want to be the one that kisses Jen Aniston!

Please watch this show. If it doesn’t make it, I’ll stop receiving my royalty checks and that would totally suck! LOL!

BREAKING NEWS: US Weekly’s Web Site Traffic Spikes Thanks to Barack Obama “Boxers or Briefs” Question

usweekly7.jpg

Reading what Sen. Barack Obama wears under his pants is the hottest celebrity news on US Weekly’s site, according to WWD.

US posted a excerpt on its Web site from its three-page feature on the presidential candidate late Wednesday night titled “Barack Obama Refuses Boxers or Briefs Question.”

In just 12 hours, the Obama story got 434,002 unique visitors and more than 3.6 million page views.

Can you imagine if US starts to do some journalistic  news coverage like this Barack story? That would generate AMAZING traffic!

Janet Reaches Out to the Gays…

And knocks Madonna at the same time!  What the hell is she thinking?

janetcover.jpg

I’ve always been a pretty big Janet fan — until NOW.  According to HX, there’s this shit about her wanting to kick Madonna’s ass. That just ain’t cool.

In this new  HX article Janet laughs off those rumors (cuz they better not be true!)

But when asked the following question,

“If a “Janet” drag queen had to battle a “Madonna” drag queen, what advice would you give the “Janet” queen?

Kick the bitch’s ass!

OK - I’d pay to see that fight. But let me tell you something Janet. I’ve met drag queen Madonna and I’ve met drag queen Janet…and drag queen Janet is No &%@$ compared to  drag queen Madonna.

So Janet, keep your peace and do your own thing.  It’s good - but you’ll NEVER be Madonna!

BREAKING NEWS: Another Reason Why TV Guide’s Oscar Fashion Cover Was A Bad Decision

According to WWD, fewer people seemed interested in the red-carpet fashion the day after. InStyle.com  saw Sunday’s unique visitors and page views increase 40 percent and 68 percent, respectively, over last year. But Monday’s numbers declined. Unique visitors fell 27 percent to 174,268, while page views decreased 37 percent to 2.9 million.

Style.com also reported declining unique visitors on Sunday and Monday. The site reported 89,000 uniques (down 7 percent) on Sunday and 128,000 uniques (down 7 percent) on Monday. Page views increased slightly on Monday, to 8.6 million.

Well, if there was little interest in fashion the day following the event, how do you think this cover of TV Guide will do over the weekend?

My prediction: This will be the worst selling issue of TV Guide EVER on the newsstand. Yes, EVER!

CRITIQUE: Why Portfolio’s Coverline is a Bust

portfolio.jpg

Boom!  What Boom!

Portfolio is not connecting with their readers in an instant.   And, that’s the problem with the headline.  I’m thinking that they’re talking about a boom in the U.S., which clearly isn’t happening!

Move to the dek and you get that they’re talking about Iraq but I’ve already walked by this issue on the newsstand!

Better luck next issue.

BREAKING NEWS: Time Out Doesn’t Want to Die!

So it’s Seeking Cash to Expand Online

timeout7.jpg

Maybe the founder of Time Out NY, Tony Elliot, read the current issue of his magazine, went to a psychic on his corner, and found out he was totally screwed if he didn’t figure out his long-term online plan?

The news that Time Out is expanding online, originally reported by Jeff Bercovici at Portfolio, is another sign that publishers know they have to learn how to live in the digital world or they won’t survive. Time Out plans to raise $40- $60 million in capital and use that cash to expand online in six new U.S. cities including L.A., Dallas, Boston, San Francisco, Seattle and Miami. Currently, the magazine has U.S. editions in NY and Chicago.

Meanwhile, the ex-editor of Time Out NY, Brian Farnham, has an online plan of his own up his sleeve. He refused to let anyone know where he was going when he left TONY earlier this year, but Folio reports that he is now with an online news information site called Polar News.

Farnham sent around a classified ad for the start-up and one of the requirements for that the person is to understand the term “hyperlocal” and its potential. Sounds like a potential TONY competitor to me!

BREAKING NEWS: Lindsay Does Paper!

Lindsay Lohan Opens Up About Recent Troubles | Lindsay Lohan

In an ongoing effort to revitalize her career, Lindsay Lohan now graces the cover of Paper Magazine.

Now it’s time for her to stop and do something else besides a magazine cover shoot!   It’s getting to the point where I’ve seen enough!

I thought she made a great move by posing on last week’s NY Magazine cover as Marilyn Monroe.  It was shocking and really got people talking.

But she’s quickly heading toward overexposing herself — no pun intended.

So if you are an editor coming up with a “creative” Lindsay cover concept, go back to the drawing board.   Not much more you can do here!

BREAKING NEWS: YouTube Wants More Magazine Partnerships

Just Don’t Ask Seventeen Magazine How They’re Doing on YouTube!
seventeen.jpg

While dozens of magazines have partnered with YouTube to create brand channels, the $1.6 billion video-sharing site announced at the MPA 24/7 conference that it wants more, according to Folio.

But a partnership with YouTube doesn’t guarantee immediate success. Seventeen magazine’s recently launched channel has secured ONLY 373 subscribers. Ouch!

COVER OF THE WEEK - New York Magazine’s Chelsea Clinton Cover

newyork2.jpg

New York Magazine follows up its Lindsay Lohan cover with another buzz building cover.

The  photo is dramatic.  It’s an up-close black and white photo that captures her fun personality and charm.

Chelsea has been by her mother’s side during the entire campaign (and who can forget that campaign call to the women at The View).   It’s about time she received this type of recognition.

It anoints Chelsea Clinton as the “Clinton dynasty’s back-up plan.”

As Hillary fights for her political life in this year’s presidential campaign, could she actually be doing all this hard lifting so that one day her daughter Chelsea will be President of the United States?

New York Mag thinks that’s a possibility and it’s an astute observation.
