Chloe Sevigny is a TREND SETTER
According to CoverAwards’ New Managing News Editor Mara Siegler
No time like the present to make a special announcement.
CoverAwards is off to a fast start and we’re still in beta mode. And, I have big news to share with all of you.
Mara Siegler joins the CoverAwards team as Managing News Editor. She’s the one to contact with breaking news on covers as well as web site redesigns. Her email is mara@coverawards.com. She has a ton of writing, editing and reporting experience – you may have seen her chatting up A-listers on the red carpet for a number of different gossip pubs or music fans may know her from the now defunct indie rock blog Brewed Fresh. She also has a big PR background. So publicisits – she feels your pain! (And we all know that it IS CRITICAL to have a PR background to be successful in editorial – HA!)
Now you’re in the know! We’ll be making our official launch announcement shortly, but in the meantime please welcome Mara!
Best,
Mark
P.S. Mara loves Chloe Sevigny! We have had some arguments over her status as ”fashion icon,” but I am going to give it a rest. If anyone has any connections to this fashionista (or other “fashion icon” Mary-Kate Olsen), please introduce Mara!
Heat On Cheryl and Ashley's Marriage!
Here’s the story of a girl who’s married to a hot soccer player (named Ashley) – and duh – he cheats on her. Huge story in the UK! And, again we have a pic of Brit on the cover – “Sectioned at Last.” But she’s already out and running around L.A.!
Oh Look! Jen & Angie Break Bread!
Jen and Angelina’s Secret Lunch Date! Are you kidding me? Unless they have photo evidence, I totally do not believe this story. The word “SECRET” convinces me that LOOK doesn’t have it!
Poor Pam Anderson – did she REALLY say “I’ll be Dead in 5 Years.” Even if she did, as an editor I wouldn’t put such a depressing projection on the cover.
Marriage advice from Posh – I’d pass!
And, I know women love shoes, but 114 is an overwhelming number of shoes – even for a woman like SB who has total shoe OCD.
Grazia Misses the Obvious!
OMG – Look at Posh’s neck! Does she look super skinny or what?
And, the big news is that this is the” BIG” fashion issue for Grazia. But the cover looks anything BUT fashionable.
What type of design is this? It looks like Posh is trapped between the two sidebars! Can she be saved??? Plus, I know it’s Victoria. You don’t have to make her name so damn big!
Pasetsky's Letter to the Editor: Janice Min
Dear Janice,
Why are you promoting Rolling Stone on your web site?

Especially when you have Britney on your cover this week!
This really doesn’t make any sense to me. It must be important for you to sell a lot of magazines on the newsstand. Will your bonus get affected by this type of decision if your sales don’t do well?
Are you getting pressure from Jann? Is he upset about the Blender cover?

Just asking?
xoxo
Mark
New Looking Old Today
The UK Magazine New hit newsstands earlier this week, but with Britney escaping leaving the psych ward yesterday the mag looks out of date. That is the major problem impacting the celebrity weekly landscape.
Newsstand mags in the U.S. are now growing at the pace they were two years ago as they find themselves competing with 24/7 celebrity news coverage on blogs and web sites. Readers know every second of a celebrities existence! Unless these magazines find a new formula (I do have a good idea – and it’s too good for me to offer it up gratis) the category will continue to suffer.
McConaughey on Cover of Men's Health WITH HIS SHIRT ON!
HOW BIZARRE! You decide to put Matthew McConaughey on the cover of a magazine that specializes in helping men believe they can get a six-pack basically any month in the year. And, you keep him covered up? What gives?
WWD Reports Drama at Bauer Publishing – Is the FBI Investigating In Touch?
A STRANGE COMPLEX STORY ON IN TOUCH!
More drama ensued for Bauer on Wednesday, when a report on Complex.com circulated that the Federal Bureau of Investigation is supposedly investigating former West Coast editors who allegedly took money in return for selecting photos to run on In Touch’s cover, according to Stephanie Smith at WWD. A spokeswoman for Bauer responded, “This whole story sounds ludicrous. Our West Coast bureau does not assign photo agencies — this goes through our photo desk. In Touch has not been contacted by the FBI.”
