COVERAWARDS’ SPECIAL REPORT: How to Make a Great Celebrity Weekly Cover!

Dear Celebrity Weekly Editors,

A newsstand in paris

Are you stressed out trying to close your issue and create the best cover of the week?

Here are some helpful suggestion to strengthen your cover and give it a better chance on the competitive newsstand!

  • Think about your reader first. How do your readers feel about the stars you are writing about and featuring on your cover?
  • Pick an emotional photo that connects with the reader. Look for eye contact. Select photos that are new and don’t look like they are from ten years ago.
  • Make your cover line specific. Readers are tired of generic lines and want to know that their celebrity weekly is delivering NEW news! Plus, write lines that are clear and make sense to the AVERAGE reader. Forget clever lines that only other editors would understand.
  • Try various approaches. It might drive your creative director and photo director nuts, but that’s OK! You might hit on a cover that you never dreamed of in the first place.
