PORTFOLIO REPORTS ON GENDER NEWS IN THE OFFICE!

Joanne Lipman’s Portfolio Magazine comes out with a strong visual cover for its in-depth report on women’s progress in the workplace.

The striking red high heal shoe being held down by the men’s black lace-up shoe tells the whole story.

According to Portfolio, “After 10 years of progress, women’s gains at work have come to a baffling halt.”

There are so many interesting details in the cover story on why women are still not receiving equal treatment.  Here’s an excerpt from the interview with Senior chairman and chief headhunter Gerry Roche, of Heidrick & Struggles.

Roche groaned when I told him why I was calling.  “There isn’t sexism anymore,” he said.  “Or if there is, you can’t rush things.  Maybe it will take another generation to make things right.”

CoverAwards advice to Gerry Roche - THINK BEFORE YOU TALK!  AND HE GROANED!  UNREAL!!!

Wait it gets better!

Roche tells Portfolio that “Boards are always asking me to bring them women candidates.”  But he still places nearly six times as many men as women.  Of his top 10 recruiters, five are female.

Portfolio asks Roche, “So why only one woman on his nine-person board?”

Roche’s response, “That’s a good question.”
