STAR MAGAZINE’S CANDACE TRUNZO LIVING IN A WORLD OF SPIN!

On Wednesday, the NY Post reported the decline of most of the celebrity weekly category during the first quarter of the 2008.  (People Magazine was the only mag seeing slight gains.)

Mysteriously missing was Candace Trunzo’s Star, the magazine that loves to pay for its stories!

Today, mystery solved!

According to the NY Post, “after suffering through a dismal circulation picture last year, in which the magazine twice dropped its rate bases, it has now posted growth in 2008, according to ABC.

Through March 24, Star has been averaging 716,000 copies sold on newsstands, compared with 704,000 a year earlier, a nearly 2 percent gain.

Two lies covers that did well?  Jamie Lynn’s Big Lie, which wondered if Casey Aldridge is the father of her unborn child, sold 783,000.  (I’m wondering if it will be a nice weekend.)

And Britney and Adnan getting married in Mexico, which was not true, sold 771,000.

The NY Post describes Stars’ early numbers as a “happy start.”

I’m calling BULLSHIT.  A two percent gain is basically the same as last year.  Plus, Star is clearly returning to its old school tabloid ways, which ULTIMATELY means it is reaching a much older audience (you know the audience that advertisers run away from in droves!)

So if you believe your own press Candace, then you’ll have a “happy start” to your day.  But when reality sets in you’ll realize that you’ve simply plugged a hole in the Titanic.
