IAN BIRCH’S TV GUIDE SAYS SVU STORMS BACK

CoverAwards Can Make A Difference!

When I started CoverAwards, I hoped that I could make a difference in the world of “bad magazine covers.”

And this dream is starting to come true.  (I’m also hoping for a stronger ecomony and peace in the world - fyi.)

Ian Birch’s TV Guide is the perfect example of a magazine that MUST read CoverAwards.

After weeks of scathing critiques, they have stepped up their game as best as possible - considering the fact that the magazine has no relevance in today’s society with electronic TV listings readily available online and on your TV.

Anyhow, before CoverAwards existed you would see a cover line that simply featured the name of the show.

Now, TV Guide features lines with a bit of dramatics — like “Storms Back!”

The magazine is also writing compelling deks for true fans of the show.

And the insets are even getting better.   I believe the Grey’s inset is so strong it should have been the main cover.

Even the little box on Katie on the top right is compelling.  It says “Katie in Crisis…Can She Survive?”

The next step for TV Guide is figuring out a way to create covers that are broader.

If you don’t watch SVU, you won’t pick up this cover.

They should try packaging three shows with a dramatic line and see how that works.    I bet they won’t be disappointed!

Bottom Line:  I’m happy for TV Guide!

The TV Guide cover is bright and cheerful. They have interesting stories about TV programs on the cover. How do they compete with free television guides in Sunday’s paper? What parts of the country do they sell the most TV guides?
