SEX AND THE CITY! ARE YOU READY NEW YORK CITY?
Buy this issue of New York Magazine FAST because it won’t be on the newsstands long.
For many, the end of Sex and the City created a weird void.
And now there’s a sense of exhilaration with the movie about to premiere May 30th.
The excitement, anticipation and relief is all captured on this cover!
I grabbed my copy today. You’ll not only love the cover, you’ll fall in love with Sarah Jessica Parker all over again after you read the interview.
Here are some highlights:
On Matthew Broderick:
“Matthew doesn’t have enough friends,” Parker says…adding that Matthew has mostly gay friends in New York. (Because this is such a crazy thing to say to a reporter - surely she know that the higher her star has risen, the more the gossips insist here marriage must be a fake - I (the NY Magazine reporter) decide that this means that Matthew is definitely not gay.)”
Her fans:
“They’re always, always kind,” says Parker. “And I think to see me on the streets of New York, in a place that they might imagine the character would be - it makes people feel good.”
On the changes in NYC’s West Village:
Parker and Broderick keep a running count of these changes (stores closing in the neighborhood), a mutual mourning for the transformation of their neighborhood into a luxe tree-lined shopping mall. She knows this sounds absurd coming from her, that people blame Sex and the City for the ruination of the West Village; even Broderick says, “That’s your fault!” when he sees a thong poking up from low-slung jeans….”
NYC is still the place to be:
It’s not that there’s no “creative energy” in the air (being careful not to sound like Madonna’s recent NY rant), it’s simply been priced out of this particular borough.
