TV GUIDE TO NAME NEW EDITOR-IN-CHIEF
According to the NY Post, TV Guide’s Editor-in-Chief Ian Birch was canned and will be succeeded by Debra Birnbaum, who recently had been editor of Life & Style.
This is part of a big makeover that is under way at TV Guide - with more than 100 sacked.
The restructuring comes after Gemstar-TV Guide International merged on Friday in a friendly $2.2 billion cash-and-stock deal with Macrovision Corp.
Macrovision, which was targeting Gemstar’s extensive entertainment guidance technology and services, is expected to spin off TV Guide magazine to new owners.
Sources said about 50 people at the magazine were laid off last week after the board voted to approve the merger. At least another 60 could be fired in the next two weeks, the sources said.
