WHY GREY'S SANDRA OH ALMOST HAD PLASTIC SURGERY

Sanra Oh — by far the stand-out on Grey’s Anatomy this season — opens up in the new issue of NUVO about how she almost got plastic surgery to obtain a more “western” look.

“I remember going to the plastic surgeon in Korea and being told that the lower half of my face was like that of a woman, but that the upper half of my face was non-gender specific,” says Sandra.

Why didn’t she get the surgery?

One day on the subway with her then-teenage brother…she asked, “Raymond, what should I do?”

Sandra recalls, He looked at me and said, “You know you got that other part [in The Diary of Evelyn Law,] right?  So I don’t think you need it.”

With those few words, something in Sandra clicked, and she decided not to go ahead with the surgery.

“If anything had been different in any way in my life, I wouldn’t be here now.   When you have a  strong will to be authentic, it’s both good and bad…”

Sandra made a wise decision. She was terrific in the movie Sideways.
