US WEEKLY SAYS JESSICA SIMPSON IS STABBED IN THE HEART!
Pasetsky’s Cover Critique
Well, Jessica Simpson makes the cover of two national celebrity weeklies this week.
Janice Min’s Us Weekly takes a slightly different stance saying that Jessica is jealous over John Mayer’s relationship with Jen Aniston, where Life & Style simply says “friends fear she was dumped.”
While this story may be true, I firmly believe this cover will be a disaster for Us Weekly.
Here’s why:
- Us Weekly uses the all too familiar pool picture of Jen & John on the cover. This automatically dates the cover in the eyes of the reader – even with the Jessica angle and the “new” pic label
- Jessica hasn’t sold a lot of copies on the newsstand in a LONG TIME!
- The reader would buy this type of story if it was Nick Lachey hooking up with someone new and was about to get married (no-one cares about Vanessa, I know). The reader still sees Jess connected with Nick. The John relationship was a rebound and I don’t think anyone will buy that Jess is so over the top devastated about John hooking up with Jen.
- And In Touch has a Jessica cover and it’s ONLY $2.99
Moving on.
Us offers a story on Angelina’s “strange birth plan.” Why is she holding a picture of Shiloh??? This is a bad photo choice.
Britney and Kevin are trying to reconcile? The editors have to ask the question! Then it should not be an inset on the cover.
Bottom Line: Us Weekly is now officially in a total tailspin and has lost its mojo! Has anyone seen Bonnie Fuller in the building? Just asking?

this isnt that bad. at least its not heidi from the hills yet again
The Jessica cover story sounds like it is probably true. I think she loved or loves Tony, but, never got over John, and I think Tony knows it. In spite of what people wanted to think Jessica and John had a very intense relationship. I think that was why Tony looked so irritated to be at the Cosmo fun and Fearless luncheon. When Tony said he had a crush on Jessica, she was with John and it was 6 months after they broke up before she went out with Tony.
