Photo selection.

This is the best photo you could find?

There are sooo many, yes I said sooo many, photos of Tom and Katie available. The one selected for this cover shows a smiling Tom Cruise with an almost giddy looking Katie Holmes.

If the photo doesn’t destroy this cover’s chance on the newsstand, let’s talk about the design.

Another DESIGN DISASTER.

The blue font for the main line is AWFUL, and why is Katie’s name in blue? It takes away from the main headline.

Put your finger over Katie’s name and you’ll see how much more of an impact the main line would have had.

Moving to the style inset.

It’s a magazine’s responsibility to be very selective about what they choose for style items for the cover. If I see any of my girlfriends wearing the hideous shorts, I will blame Life & Style.  They are atrocious.

And why put a dress on the cover? That is a very narrow topic. Do you think the average woman sees herself in that dress size?

I could go on and on - but I’ll end it on the Jessica Alba it’s a girl inset. AND?

Bottom Line: Life & Style is a prisoner to old story lines.
