TURMOIL AT LIFE & STYLE: Blame the Covers — Not Gas Prices
As CoverAwards shared with you earlier via Jossip, today, Life & Style Weekly named a new editor in chief.
In today’s tough economy, it’s easy to blame soaring gas prices on the fact the magazines are not flying off the newsstands like they used to.
In the end, as we’ll see by People Magazine’s numbers in August, it’s about…
delivering covers that the consumers want.
This is especially true in the celebrity weekly category - where this type of purchase is completely compulsive. To this day, there is very little brand loyalty.
When you see covers like Life & Style has been releasing, e.g. the above — Shiloh’s lonely world, it’s not surprising that the magazine is most likely struggling big time on the newsstand - which is a key component to its success. (Bauer Publishing is a newsstand driven company and is less reliant on subscriptions.)
On another note…
my best wishes go out to the staff of Life & Style. Any time this type of move is made in any company, there is a great amount of uncertainty in the air. And, to have this happen right before a holiday weekend is quite tough. But, forget about it and enjoy the weekend anyway.
