INSTYLE TRIES TO GET BACK IN STYLE WITH RIHANNA

Rihanna is front and center on InStyle’s New Redesign

WWD reports on the redesign of InStyle and it shows why magazine’s like InStyle are suffering.

It took Time Inc. a year to pull of a redesign. What were they thinking and why did it take so long?

Really, how complicated could a project like this be?

This demonstrates the height of bureaucracy in big companies that are not able to take risks - and it’s not surprising that they’ve fallen behind in ad sales.

According to WWD, the “new look is more modern with a bigger focus on fashion and beauty, demonstrated through bigger pictures, bolder headlines, and new sections.”

“Our marketplace has become very crowded both on the fashion front, with everyone using celebrity and treating service in the way that had become very familiar for In Style, and on the weekly front, where the celebrity magazines had encroached,” said In Style managing editor Charla Lawhon.

One final note, can you imagine how long the meetings must have been to decide on section names, layouts, colors, etc.? What a nightmare.
