Fans React to Shia LaBeouf's DUI
CoverAwards spoke to Mike Arthus of the leading Shia Labeouf fan site, (www.shialabeouf.us) to get a reaction regarding Shia LaBeouf’s weekend DUI.
How are the fans reacting?
The fan reaction has been varied, but for the most part the underlying sentiment has been one of support for Shia. Most fans seem to disappointed by the fact that he chose to drink and drive, but also confident that he will learn from this mistake, as well as relieved that no one was seriously injured in the accident.
What is your reaction?
I don’t think my reaction is all that much different from that of the rest of Shia Nation. My first emotion in response to hearing the news of the accident and arrest was concern: worried that Shia, his passenger, or the people in the other car may have been seriously injured; concern over the legal ramifications over the incident; concern over how this could affect his career. This reaction has changed now, strangely enough, to optimism: I now see this as a great opportunity for Shia to come out and tell his young fans about the dangers of drunk driving, and to explain how every decision we make in life has consequences. I think he’s going to come out of this a stronger person and a stronger public figure, by showing that he’s not headed down the road to becoming a “Disney Star Gone Wrong” but rather becoming a role model who learns from his youthful mistakes.
Will this affect the fans loyalty?
If fan reaction has been any indication, this is not going to affect his fans’ loyalty in the slightest. Shia fans tend to think of him the way we think of best friends and family members–we will always support him 100%, and will always have his back. A lot of fans have responded recently by defending him against what many see as a press corps that is dead-set on portraying him as the next Lindsay Lohan. He’s like a brother to many fans: we may not always agree with every decision he makes, but we’re never going to give up on him or stop thinking of him in an entirely positive light.
Are they worried about Shia?
Fans are certainly worried–and not just about Shia, but about everyone involved in the incident. The Walgreen’s arrest earlier in the year was just a humorous anecdote to many, but this is serious, and fans understand the gravity of the situation. We all hope he is recovering well from his hand surgery, and hope that everyone else involved is on the road to good health. Our thoughts are with Shia, his family, and everyone involved..
Anything else you would like to add?
I would just like to add that Shia can rest assured that his fans are behind him entirely, and hoping he recovers quickly and learns from this unfortunate incident. We all think he’s the most promising actor of his generation, and a great person as well, and this has done nothing to shake our conviction on that and our appreciation for Shia.

I totally agree to what Mike said. At this time, more bits and pieces of detail about the accident are coming out, and showing more and more to be on Shia’s side. If he was intoxicated, let’s hope he realizes how more tragic this could have become, and NEVER do it again!!! Shia needs to count every one of his blessings!!! Take care and get well soon, Shia!! We all love you!!
I am one of those fans! I haven’t left the website in 2 days! I go there everyday and Mike couldn’t have said it better! We will love and support Shia forever!
I am so happy to read this and her others express the same feelings that I hold as a fan.
Well said Mike,
So many people jump to conclusions in a heartbeat…People are so quick to judge and turn against someone in a heartbeat. Especially when you are a well known figure. Accidents like this happen everyday but go unannounced, but how many people care about that?
DDriving should never be condoned, but this is obviously a lesson to be learned and I beleive Shia has a good head on his shoulders and didn’t say I am going out to do this, purposely. He faced his responsibility as reported with more clarifying news that have been released about this incident. Which I had been waiting for more detail before judging, but do I really have the right to judge? Does anybody?
He is human, as we all are, this could have happened to anyone and it could have been tragic. I would be lying if I said I never made any poor decision in my life. But it is what you do with it that makes a difference. Face up to the consequences and take responsibility for whatever may come. Which I beleive he has.
Life goes on—
Much Support and Well Wishes–
Get well soon and see you on the big screen soon Shia—
i totally agree!
i will always support and love shia!!
i love shia. and this was very scary news to hear. i hope he gets better soon.
I just wanted to say that bad things sometimes happens to good people. I hope he doesn’t let this incident define him.
I wish him all the best. He is a incredible actor and a amazing talent.
I support Mke’s opinion. Shia should know that we fans have not given up on him. We know that Shia can learn from his mistakes, he’s still the “godd guy with an edge” and this is how I like to see him. My support is with Shia, his family and the other people involved into the accident.
xxxxx
I’ll always have a spot in my heart for shia, no matter what, people make mistakes, besides it wasn’t even his falt.the other guy ran a red light.he deserves to have fun just like everyone else. He is a good person who stuck around to face his fate like real man and i respect him even more now than ever. Thank god for beef
i hope shia gets better i am thinking of him and i will never get up on him and i am glad that this other fans are not either. so keep shia pride alive. and his family and him are in my prayers.
I definitely agree with what Mike said in this interview, I can’t say that I personally know Shia (much to my dismay), but I can say that I grew up with him, watching him, and we are all nothing but a product of our own societies. Can’t say I don’t drive drunk, you can’t say you haven’t ever done it, it’s just a matter of getting caught or getting in an accident. Not that I’m trying to downplay his accident, but I do think that this isn’t the worst thing that could have happened and I certainly don’t think Shia is going to be the Hollywood type that the cops will find coke on. He likes to drink! Who doesn’t!
I’ll defend Shia forever, what an awesome actor and perfect face for our generation.
I Agree with everything, ive been tremendously worried about shia, and i hope he is okay, Does anyone know if hes out of the hospital yet or when he will be out of the hospital. As soon as i heard about that, i just wanted to hop on a plane and head out to cali. (and im from texas) lol. It sucks that this happened to him, and I know he is the greatest man alive, but hes still human as most people obviously dont think he is with all the paps comments and everything. Hes not the only one that has been arrested in public for being drunk or caught smoking in a no smoking zone or even being in the accident. as soon as anyone hears any actor/actress was in a car accident they automatically pin point it as a DUI. Its sad that everyone cant think that this guy is human and he has family and friends, and fans that all care about him and will support him no matter what. I DEF AGREE with everything said, I have his name tattooed on my wrist, That is how much i support him. I will support him no matter what for the rest of my life. As long as that tattoo stays, he will stay. Thanks for writing this article, shia needs to see this to see that we all still love him, and if you are a fan and your feelings towards him has changed because of anything that he has done, then you arent a true shia fan to begin with.. LOVE YOU SHIA!!!!!

Well said Mike, I agree with everything you said. We’re still love Shia and are all beind him 100%!!
Shia is SUCH a brilliant actor and person. I think those of us to are fans of his relate to him because he is so natural on screen and so very much himself off screen, in interviews his personality just shines. We love him (and we do, we really love him) because of that humanity that he displays in all he does, and always has, even from such a young age. He has problems and faults but also (from the reports of what happened) a real sense of responsibility and maturity about the consequences of his actions. I hope he knows how much positive energy and love we are sending his way! I for one will be a fan, always.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: This incident is looking to be a blessing in disguise. It looks like Shia was already in the process of “waking up” when he admitted in “Details” that he has a probelm with alcohol. I think this incident has led him to do some deep soul-searching, and I really doubt that he’s going to take it lightly. I truly believe that he’s realized what could have happened as a result of drunk driving and that he’s going to take steps in the right direction.
This is one fan who isn’t ready to give up hope on you, Shia.
And give your mom a hug and tell her it’s from Linda in Oregon. =o)
I’m a HUGE fan of Shia and when I heard about this incident, I was extremely disappointed. But I will never give up on him…he seems like he’s a great guy. He’s also an extremely good actor. MANY good actors have maken mistakes worse than this (not to downplay the situation…I feel for everyone involved in this accident).
My heart goes out to Shia and everyone involved in the accident.
Yes, I am with all of you!!! Get well soon Shia! We love and support you 100%

Can I just say they were great answers, I am a huge fan of Shia’s and friends of mine have been saying how stupid he was.
But I think everything happens for a reason and I totally believe he will come out strong thorugh it. It’s not gonna be easy, of coarse it’s not but he will, because he loves doing what he does.
AND WHOLE SHIA NATION IS BEHIND HIM!
I am a proud Labeouf supporter. D=
Amazing answers. Shia fans get that people make mistakes and all we hope is that Shia handles this whole thing responsibly and gets the appropriate help. This incident helped prove to myself and others that I’m a true blue Shia supporter. He’s extremely talented, and I truly believe he’s a smart, responsible guy. He’ll handle this in a mature fashion and prove that he’s is definitely NOT in a category with the likes of Lindsay Lohan.
Your TRUE fans are behind you, Shia!
I agree 100% with you Mike, i am a true Shia fan, i am upset about what happened but i would never turn my back on him NEVER i would never let his career die and i am sure every Shia fan wouldn’t let it die either, he will never be the next Lindsay and no one will let that happened, i will defend him till the end. Shia i will never turn my back on you, and your fans got your back
he will be back in no time, this is Shia’s final wakeup call and he ant letting it go, so i hope he is getting his shit together and ready to bring it, because their are going to be more haters but us as the fans will take care of them all he has to do is worry about getting better,
Shia get better and come out better then ever before and show them you are truly one of a kind and don’t take your work lightly, and were be here.
Mike is overly rite. This doesn’t affect his fans support. I am a BIG Shia fan. Shia is a great actor and will continue to be, something like this won’t affect the love and support that he gets from his fans.! Love you Shia!
