When Vibe noted that it took a long time for the hip hop community to decide between Obama and Hillary, here’s what Jay-Z had to say on why he supports Barack:

“What Obama represents is, we as a people are a part of the American Dream. It’s not like, Yo, the black man is hot. I hate when people get on TV and say that. It’s almost like we’re bragging. No!

That ain’t the message. The message is for a kid in Marcy projects right now to say, maybe I can be the president.

Because we were left out of the dream at a certain point. Now the dream is, you can be anything - and it’s not a cliche.
