Russia’s invasion of Georgia is alarming for the United States as well as the rest of the world.
This recent attack occurred because Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is resentful to “Georgia and its President, the U.S. educated Mikheil Saakashvili” reports Time Magazine.
What’s even scarier is a past statement made by Putin where he declared “The dissolution of the Soviet Union the greatest geopolitical disaster of the 20th century.”
Is there anything to stop Russia from these types of attacks on these newly democratic nations?
Time, The Economist and The Week each selected this alarming topic for its cover.
Let’s take a look at all three from a newsstand buyer’s perspective:
Cover Line:
The Week says “Russia, rising” and The Economist says “Russia Resurgent.” Both have basically the same line and are not specific.
The most compelling line goes to Time with “How to Stop a New Cold War.” It’s very strong. It’s the big fear among Americans and most likely the rest of the world.
Cover Photo:
The Week and The Economist both feature artist’s rendition of Vladimir Putin. The Economist is much more appropriate considering the seriousness of the situation, while The Week’s approach makes Putin laughable. Time magazine illustrates a Russian soldier on his way to Tbilisi.
Most dramatic photo is The Economist. It evokes every fear we have regarding Russia as a superpower.
Bottom Line: Each magazine made the right decision to cover this alarming situation instead of the Olympics.
