Michael Phelps Matches Spitz: Wins 7th Gold Medal
Michael Phelps captured his 7th gold medal in the men’s 100M Butterfly, in what was probably the most-watched event in Olympic history (good news for NBC).
In a brilliant race, Phelps won in 1/100 of a second!
“When I saw the finish, I was at a loss for words,” said Phelps after the race.
His goal of surpassing Mark Spitz’s record of seven gold medals in one Olympic Games is now one gold away from reality.
When asked if he thought he could ever get this point, Phelps said, “I think just believing that you can do it goes a long way.”
To date, Phelps has broken multiple world records while winning the 400-meter IM, the 4×100 relay, the 200 free, the 200 fly, the 4×200 free relay and the 200 IM, reports ESPN.
