Mark Spitz vs. Michael Phelps: Spitz Says It Would be a Tie?!?
Mark Spitz is quickly becoming the man who should never give an interview about Michael Phelps again!
After Phelps smashed Mark Spitz’s record by winning his eighth gold medal in Beijing on Sunday, he was asked who would win a race between the two?
“I certainly would know what would make him tick, and how to beat him,” Spitz, who won seven gold medals in Munich in 1972, told NBC, “and he would certainly know the same about me, so I would have to say, we would probably tie.”
A tie? Yeah right. Spitz would have been better served by simply saying that Phelps is a great champion and that’s an impossible question to answer.
He could have also taken it a step further and said that Phelps would win, which is probably the truth anyway.
