COVERAWARDS' EXCLUSIVE: More Magazine's EIC Lesley Jane Seymour On Michelle Obama's Speech and More Photo Shoot
CoverAwards spoke exclusively with More’s Editor-in-Chief Lesley Jane Seymour, who is attending the Democratic National Convention in Denver.
More Magazine reaches women over forty, many of whom are Hillary Clinton supporters. It will obviously be a big get for Barack Obama if he can move these women into his camp.
Seymour thought Michelle “nailed” her speech last night. And, she believes Michelle was especially strong when she said how proud she was of her country.
Seymour adds that it was smart for Michelle “not to talk about policy. She shouldn’t.”
“What was important for Michelle was to discuss “renewal” because “that’s what Americans are waiting for,” Seymour explains.
More Magazine recently held a photo shoot with Michelle Obama, which will appear on the October cover.
“Michelle looked fabulous and she wore a hot pink dress,” says Seymour.
If Barack wins the election in the fall, “Michelle will be a trendsetter for women over 40,” adds Seymour. “She has that Jackie O-style.”
What was Michelle Obama like in-person?
“She was lovely and warm,” says Seymour. “The shoot was done in Chicago and she was there with her mom.”
Seymour observed that Michelle is “a great eater, which means the person is usually a very warm, generous person. It was like “eating lunch with great friends.”
Seymour, who joined More in the second half of 08, believes that Michelle was definitely worth keeping an eye on for a cover topic.
“We like strong, interesting women and women who are making news, making history,” says Seymour.
Will there be a Cindy McCain cover?
More Magazine ran an inside piece on Cindy McCain in 07, and if McCain wins, you can expect to see Cindy McCain on a future cover of More, according to Seymour.
