Google Making Ultimate Newspaper Archive: Beginning of the Final Chapter for Newspapers?
Google announced that it is trying to expand its online catalog of newspaper articles to include billions of articles published over the past 244 years, according to HuffPo.
Google will offer to pay the bill to copy entire archives of any newspaper company willing to allow Google to show them for free on their website.
“This could be a turning point for the industry,” said Pierre Little, publisher of the Quebec Chronicle-Telegraph.
Publishers will receive an undisclosed portion of the revenue generated by ads Google displays on these new web pages.
Many newspapers have already agreed to Google’s proposal, including Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the St. Petersburg Times in Florida.
