Happy Columbus Day; New Yorkers to Enjoy Annual Parade!

Nearly 35,000 marchers are expected on Fifth Avenue Monday for the annual Columbus Day parade.

Crowds also can expect to see about 100 floats and thousands of participants.

The first Columbus Day celebration was held in 1792, when New York City celebrated the 300th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s arrival in the Americas.

In 1892, President Benjamin Harrison called upon the people of the United States to celebrate Columbus Day on the 400th anniversary of the event.
