OBVIOUS FORBES COVER STUDY REVEALS: Angelina Jolie Sells!
Forbes.com’s second annual analysis of the top-selling celebrity faces proved that Angelina Jolie is the top selling face of magazine covers.
Forbes analyzed the newsstand sales for the six biggest celebrity weeklies– People, Star, US Weekly, In Touch Weekly, Life & Style and OK!–over a year-long period ending June 30, eliminating non-celebrity and “collage” covers as well as one-off cover subjects and special issues with exceptionally large rate bases.
Jennifer Aniston also proved highly appealing, this time landing second on the list (she was No. 1 last year).
Should I put Angie and Jen on the cover this week?
It’s questionable.
All the editors will see this study and think they’ve got to go for an Angie or Jen cover. In fact, don’t be surprised if you see a combo cover featuring both of these women on a celebrity weekly cover this week.
In addition, while both of these women continue to be strong candidates for cover stories, there is fatigue among readers.
Finally, this study concluded in June – a long time in the weekly magazine world.
So unless you have a compelling new picture coupled with a strong story, MOVE ON.
It’s time for the weeklies to take risks and try new candidates, e.g. Megan Fox.
