US WEEKLY: Inside Jenny McCarthy & Jim Carrey Battling Autism Together
By US HERE!
We’ve all heard about Jenny McCarthy’s battle to save her son Evan from autism.
And in this week’s issue of Us, she not only opens up about how she helped her son Evan recover from autism, but Jim Carrey’s role in the emotional process:
McCarthy tells Us Weekly that Jim Carrey said, “This is a girl that I love with her beautiful little boy, and I’m going to open all possibilities…He didn’t run from the ugly parts of autism – like Evan screaming all day long. He hung in there.”
McCarthy also explains why she calls Carrey the autism whisperer:
“Evan was scared of the water. My way was to throw a kid in the pool and let him scream until he gets used to it. But it wasn’t working.
So at the beach, Jim would put his feet in the water and laugh and pretend he was having the time of his life. He did it for hours, until Evan took those two steps and got his little feet wet. He did this patient, gradual, loving, easing into a difficult situation, using fun to heal.”
In addition to the heart wrenching cover story, Us Weekly delivers the FIRST exclusive interview with Shanna Moakler following that awful plane crash involving Travis Barker and DJ AM. Here are some excerpts:
When asked how this affected their relationship, Moakler says, “There’s a love that’ll always be there. I haven’t thought about the long term. We’re just trying to get him well and home.”
On Barker commenting on his MySpace page that Moakler “abandoned” him:
“I would never abandon anyone in his condition, and I have made sure he had a support system. My feelings are deeply hurt. I wish him a speedy recovery and am thankful he’s alive.”
