CoverAwards spoke exclusively to Rettenmund on Popstar Magazine’s big 10 year anniversary.
“We’ve outlasted magazines like Teen People and CosmoGirl!, which is humbling, so we must be doing something right,” says Rettenmund.
“It’s been 10 years of boy bands and girl groups and Britney [Spears] and Miley [Cyrus] and High School Musical and who’s dating who…and the most loyal young readers any magazine could ever want,” adds Rettenmund.
So what’s made Popstar a mainstay?
“I think what has attracted them to Popstar!, along with championing newcomers very early on (as we did with Zac Efron, the Jonas Brothers and Hilary Duff), is that we know where the bodies are buried—but we don’t tell,” explains Rettenmund.
“Our magazine is pure positivity, and that’s something the teen category needs to hold onto,” adds Rettenmund.
