Bernie Madoff Hiding Gems From Authorities?

This guy doesn’t stop!

Bernard Madoff secretly mailed more than $1 million worth of jewelry, valuables and gifts to relatives and friends after he was pinched, reports the New York Post.

Prosecutors dragged him into court in an effort to jail him, saying he violated a bail agreement that prevented him from transferring any assets.

Madoff and his wife, Ruth, sent out four separate packages on Christmas Eve and possibly Dec. 27, lawyers revealed.

Defense lawyer Ira Sorkin said the objects were heirlooms innocently (nothing with this guy ’seems’ innocent to me) sent to Madoff’s children – his two sons turned Madoff in to authorities after he confessed his scheme to them on Dec. 10 – and brother, Peter.

The mailings, which included expensive watches, pens, cufflinks and a $200 pair of mittens raised fears that the Madoffs were trying to hide assets from seizure by the government or Bernard’s multitude of victims.

Ya think?

Madoff’s lawyer argued that the items were not significant assets but “heirlooms,” and that the mailings “happened innocently.”

I don’t buy Madoff’s argument at all!

“One [package] may value in excess of $1 million,” said Litt, the prosecutor.

$1 million.
