People Magazine’s Editor Larry Hackett delivers a heartwarming cover featuring John Travolta and the loss of his son Jett.

I’m surprised that People used the quote ‘We are Heartbroken,’ but it was the right move. 

It’s much more emotional than using the line above the photos ‘Travolta Family Tragedy,’ which is what I expected from People.

I also like the combination of photos – the older photo of when Jett was younger coupled with the recent black and white photo.  The older photo reminds me of this 1994 People Magazine cover featuring the Travoltas.

The dek promises many details from close friends and feels like you’ll be getting new information on this terrible tragedy.

Bottom Line: A tough story delivered in a compassionate manner.
