You will have no shortage of options when you head to the newsstand this week to purchase a cover on the big Chris Brown and Rihanna reunion. There are four covers this week and each one has a different angle.
The first one I’ll review is InTouch Weekly and it’s important to remind you that I’m looking at all four issues at the same time – the same way a consumer would be looking at them on the newsstand.
InTouch goes for the “Why We Got Back Together Angle.” This is an attempt by the editors to make you believe that you are getting both sides of the story.
Will it work?
No.
Readers don’t sympathize with Chris Brown so that’s one strike. Nobody cares about his side of the story.
Strike two is the weird “eye-witness account tag” above the main headline. That makes the story seem fake to me.
Finally, strike three is the split cover. The editors decided to go with two separate images versus an image of the couple together. That was a bad decision.
Bottom Line: Three strikes and you’re out! It’s a cliche but it’s true.
