People Revisits Texas Polygamy Sect: Children of the Cult

It’s hard to believe that it’s been one year since the Texas Polygamy story broke.
And, this week People Magazine takes you inside the compound.
This type of cover demonstrates the key strength of People Magazine in the celebrity weekly category.
Unlike its competitors, which would love to have the ad dollars that People rakes in year-after-year, People Magazine can flex its muscles with this real-life story.
Next week it easily can go back to a celebrity-focused cover without missing a beat.
Other magazines in the category have tried to do this but have failed miserably for the most part.
Why can People Magazine do this?
It’s built a credible reputation.
That’s not easy – especially when some of your competitors appear to be making up stories half the time.
On a side note, I do have one question about this cover. Why is the kid on the right the only one wearing jeans and a button down?
Bottom Line: While this won’t be People’s strongest seller of the year, it shows off the magazine’s biggest strength — the ability to move from real-life to celebrity in the blink of an eye.
