EARTH DAY SPECIAL: Make Magazine Uses 30 Percent Post Consumer Recyclable Paper
To celebrate Earth Day, CoverAwards is speaking with editors who are spearheading the effort to produce their magazine’s with recycled paper and support a greener environment.
Up now is Shawn Connally, the managing editor of Make Magazine.
“When we first started Make magazine, we were using 10 percent post consumer recyclable paper. Now, it’s 30 percent post consumer recycle.” (That’s paper that’s actually recycled out of the consumer stream.)
The reason behind Make’s decision to produce on recycled paper is pretty simple.
Find out why after the jump!
“As we move more and more online, I think it’s [still] important to have something to hold. But, I feel guilty holding magazines because it’s like holding dead trees,” explains Connally.
That’s why Make focuses on using recycled paper as much as possible.
The next issue of Make Magazine (cover above) is all about learning how to make food and energy using the untapped resources of your house, yard, and community.
According to Connally, Make Magazine will show you how to measure your energy use, maximize your efficiency, and make the most of the sun, land, plants, earth, and air around you.
Projects include making a topographical map of your property, starting an energy garden, making an embedded irrigation system, and using worms and chickens to reduce household inputs.
