Us Weekly comes out swinging with its Kate Gosselin cover – marking the third cover in a row on the couple by Us.

This week it’s about Kate and her bodyguard.  Yesterday, Kate was out refuting this upcoming report as you saw right here on CoverAwards.

Us details include Jon threatening to hire a P.I., ongoing fighting between the couple, and even accuses Kate of not touching her bleeding son during a press event.

Will Us continue to experience big sales with Jon & Kate mania?

It certainly looks that way.

While the details in the dek are not strong — Jon threatens to hire a P.I. is a weak detail because he didn’t actually hire a P.I. — the main cover picture is dramatic.

It’s dark, ominous and secretive.  I looks like Kate was sneaking out of a hotel with the bodyguard.  And, most likely, that’s what Us Weekly believes the readers will think when they see the picture.

However, Us is taking a gamble that the average newsstand buyer will recognize Kate.  But they seem to have realized that was a possibility because they made her name prominent in the headline.

One last thought: The main line is by no means definitive.  It gets close to accusing Kate of having an affair but doesn’t go all the way.  Will the reader notice?  That’s the big question to be answered this week on the newsstand.

Bottom Line: Strong picture keeps Us Weekly rolling.
