Jon & Kate Plus 8: Inside Jon's Prison
Us Weekly releases its fifth Jon & Kate Gosselin cover this week.
Yes, five weeks in a row!
Can you believe it?
This week we go inside Jon’s prison.
He gets $5 a day allowance from Kate and he’s taunted over his hair loss & weight.
Plus, they are both going for fame and money over the well-being of their kids!
Full cover and cover critique after the jump!
Us Weekly has really turned on Kate Gosselin and made her into the villain in this story.
Jon looks like the pathetic fool who can’t get out of this bad marriage.
This cover’s angle (making Kate the villain) is another example of how a magazine is reacting to its readers feeling about the person being covered.
Clearly, through research, Us’ readers are telling them that they don’t like Kate and are siding with Jon.
Last week, she was a monster. This week, Kate’s keeping Jon in a prison. Wasn’t it Jon who was caught with another woman in the first place?
So, you’ve learned a little bit about how Us figures out its angle for its cover. But the bigger question still to be answered is how this cover will do on the newsstand?
The answer…
This is a very strong cover and it demonstrates Us Weekly’s unique ability to collect/gather details and make them support the main headline of the week (Inside Jon’s Prison).
In addition, the cover feels new and that’s a big accomplishment when you’ve done the story five weeks in a row.
Bottom Line: I doubt this is the last we’ve seen of Jon & Kate on the cover of Us Weekly.
