Wellness Programs Cure for Obesity Epedemic

Time Magazine jumps on healthcare this week with its cover featuring Barack Obama.
And that’s not surprising!
With the release of the obesity study published in the journal Health Affairs, it’s clearly time for corporate America to take responsibility and make wellness programs mandatory.
Before I share with you the benefits of wellness programs, let’s take a look at the shocking findings from the study as reported by the New York Times:
- Obese Americans spend about 42 percent more on health care than other Americans
- Medical spending on obesity-related conditions is estimated to have reached147 billion a year in 2008. That figure represents almost 10 percent of all medical spending.
- Obese Americans spend about $1,429 more on health care each year than the roughly $3,400 spent by other Americans
Benefits of wellness programs
Wellness programs not only help improve the health of employees by motivating them to take care of themselves, but they also reduce these alarming health care costs associated with obesity as well as improve your bottom line.

How do you create a wellness program?
It’s really simple. You establish “wellness goals,” e.g. target weights, quitting smoking, reducing blood pressure or lowering cholesterol.
You can also include preventative check-ups as one of the goals. It’s not just obesity that wellness programs can help prevent. There are a wide array of diseases that can be prevented with early detection.
Once your employees reach their goal, they receive points. And with these points, they can select from a variety of products and services to celebrate achieving their goals.
What results can you expect from your wellness program?
Reduced absenteeism, increased employee loyalty and a major decrease in health insurance costs are just some of the many benefits.
Bottom line: The time is now to begin a wellness program. It will improve the health of your employees — and your company’s long-term potential!

Feud: Scarlett Johannson vs. Robert Redford

In “Robert Redford: The Biography,” due out in November, author Michael Feeney Callan says that the then-13-year-old starlet had Redford pulling his hair out in frustration on the set of their 1998 film, “The Horse Whisperer.” According to the NY Daily News, the director acknowledges Johansson’s talent, her paint-by-numbers approach to acting and overbearing stage manager mom proved to be a lethal combination.
Apparently, Johansson put her own personal spin — or, rather, her mother’s interpretation — on her scenes, which conflicted with Redford’s vision. In addition, the actress’ constantly spoke back to Redford.

Angelina Jolie & Megan Fox Comparison: STOP!

Megan Fox keeps getting upset about the ongoing comparison to Angelina Jolie. Here’s her latest statement regarding this boring topic:
“I think its cause she has tattoos really, I think a lack of creativity on the media’s part,” Fox said. “I am a brunette with tattoos, I curse and I have made mention of sex before.”
It’s time to stop the comparison! Don’t you think?
Wanna Watch Jon & Kate’s Dates on TV?

You’re in luck! TLC president Eileen O’Neill read a statement about the upcoming episodes of Jon & Kate Plus 8 at Television Critics Associated Panel in Pasadena, Calif. today, which suggested you’ll see Jon & Kate dating on TV.
Here’s the statement:
“Over the last four years and through 100 episodes, we’ve captured this remarkable family’s entertaining chaos,” O’Neill said. “Viewers fell in love and the show developed a passionate, loyal following.
“But this past spring, life intervened and the family’s status changed. It was certainly something we never expected, nor planed to have happen. But this has resulted in unprecedented television,” she continued.
“Our approach to the circumstance was simple: to cover the family with great care and thoughtfulness as they dealt with a subject that is all too familiar to many American families today.
“Jon and Kate have never said they were perfect, which has made them relatable and created an undeniable connection with the viewers. We will continue to capture this family’s journey in a respectful and sensitive way.
“The show comes back on Monday and most new episodes remain a work in progress,” she went on. “But I will tell you: the iconic couch is gone. Jon and Kate will now have separate chairs for their interview.
“You’re still going to see two parents that love their kids, but you’ll be seeing them parenting separately,” she said. “You’ll see what it’s like when Kate has to put up a tent for a backyard camping experience by herself. Or, you’ll see Jon trying to cook up a pizza for the kids.”
Viewers will see Jon and Kate date, O’Neill said.
“As far as new people and places that may be cycling into Jon and Kate’s life, we are taking it on a case-by-case basis,” she said.
“This is real life. It’s important to remember that our cameras are only there for moments in time, and those moments have limits.”

Do you like Lindsay better as a blonde?
