Tank Magazine, which prints 60,000 copies per issue, is celebrating Fashion Week with this memorable cover featuring a topless Claudia Schiffer.
I spoke with Caroline Issa, Tank’s executive fashion director and publisher, who described Tank’s cover approach.
She explained this is the first time Tank is featuring cover lines – besides the main line ‘I, Claudia’ – on the cover.
The lines are placed at the bottom of the cover so the visual impact of the photo remains strong.
According to Issa, Tank is attempting to communicate the depth of content inside the magazine.
While this is a step in the right direction for Tank, the magazine will have to reconsider where and how it places these additional cover lines. In fact, I didn’t even notice them at first.
In addition, Tank is now spiral bound for the first time.
This will make it easier to view the incredible photo spreads inside the magazine, explains Issa.
It does makes the issue feel less disposable, which will make consumers feel like they are making more of an investment.
Plus, it looks more attractive on your coffee table. (Both the spiral bound look AND the Claudia Schiffer pic!)
