November 1996, Ali Larter, Esquire: The Cover That Started It All

Remember this cover? Esquire decided to tout a fake actress by the name of Allegra Coleman and dupe the masses into thinking the then unknown Ali Larter was Hollywood’s Next Dream Girl?

The public bought it, naturally, until Esquire editor Edward Kosner released a statement to various news outlets outing writer Martha Sherrill‘s scheme.

Ali Larter, however, benefited from the exposure and has since gone on to star in several movies as well as the hit NBC show Heroes.
