Entertainment Weekly gears us up for the Superbowl of the movie industry

This year’s Oscars is a rare one indeed. A 3-D animated sci-fi flick looks to be the early favorite, with an “indie war drama” The Hurt Locker trailing closely behind. Meanwhile, who ever thought Meryl Streep and Sandra Bullock would be uttered in the same sentence, let alone up for the same award. The always affable Bullock had nothing but modesty:

Meryl and I laugh about what people say about us going ‘head to head,’” Bullock says. “In our world, we talk, we laugh, we’re so thankful just to have a mention. I told her, ‘This ride with you has made it so sweet.’ Because I like her so much as a human being and as a woman.”

However, there are a few surprises. Maggie Gyllenhaal found herself up against front-runner Mo’Nique in the Supporting Actress category.
