Men’s Vogue will increase its rate base by 50,000 copies as of its February 2009 issue, to 400,000.  This is despite the fact that the title has seen a 4% decline in ad pages.

With the rate increase Men’s Vogue will still be much smaller than GQ, whose rate base is 875,000, but IS gaining on Details who has a rate base of 425,000.

Richard Stengel, Time’s Managing Editor, appeared on my favorite morning news show MORNING JOE on MSNBC, and said something like he simply couldn’t decide who to put on the cover of this special Olympic preview issue of Time Magazine.

Both stories were equally compelling. Dana Torres, the 41-year old swimmer and can LeBron James lead the men’s Olympic basketball team back to glory? (BTW-Time’s cover of Lebron James is not controversial at all compared to his appearance on Vogue with Giselle.)

Long story short.

I went to the newsstand and bought two copies. But, beware! You only have to buy one. Both covers come with each issue.

The president of the College Republicans at the University of Southern California, Ben Myers, is accusing CNN of using a “fake College Republican,” named Eric Perlmutter (hmmm…click here)during their American Morning broadcast.  

Perlmutter discussed the lack of enthusiasm for John McCain on campus saying “We try to get people out to our College Republican meetings, but we can’t seem to get the same amount of support.”

A CNN spokeswoman has responded saying, ”While he [Eric] attends USC and says that he is a registered Republican, he was inadvertently identified on-screen as a member of the USC College Republicans organization.” 

They have invited Ben Myers to appear on the program.

Ooh La La!

What could be more exciting that speaking in front of 200,000 screaming Germans?

Meeting French President Nicolas Sarkozy and of course, his stunning wife, Carla Bruni.

After Paris, it’s off to London.

Halle Looks Super Slim!

A stern looking Halle Berry showed off her hot body as she strolled through L.A. yesterday, just four months after giving birth to her first child Nahla with boyfriend Gabriel.

‘I feel having a baby will open up a whole new world for me. I think I’ll actually find better roles, because I’ve gotten past being the ingenue and sex symbol,” Halle Berry has said.

This issue of The Week is the latest in the string of Barack Obama Magazine covers to hit the newsstand.

And, that’s not surprising. Especially after seeing the 250,000 (the number keeps going up!) person crowd in Berlin yesterday or learning that bombshell Pam Anderson threw her boobs support behind Barack Obama.

Last week’s controversial cover of the New Yorker was a virtual sell-out on newsstands with early estimates at 75,000 up from the weekly average of 43,000, reports the NY Post. (Most copies are sold via subscription.)

For Us Weekly, the cover featuring Obama and his wife Michelle sold between 900,000 and 1 million, above the magazine’s 800,000 weekly newsstand average.

Obama is also on the cover of the recent double issue of Rolling Stone, which could sell as many as 250,000, also above the magazine’s newsstand average for double issues.

Said a spokeswoman for Time, “Of our five covers featuring Obama and/or Hillary Clinton. . . this year, they either sold significantly above average or above average. On the other hand, the John McCain cover this year sold just below average, reports the NY Post.
