It’s off to the slammer for Raffaello Follieri.
He had pleaded guilty in September to 14 counts of wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy.
Today he was sentenced in Manhattan federal court Thursday to 4½ years in prison, reports People.

Anne Hathaway’s ex-boyfriend, Raffaello Follieri, plead guilty to all 14 counts against him Wednesday morning in a Manhattan federal court.
He plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, eight counts of wire fraud and five counts of money laundering.

“As soon as I found out about the arrest, I had to get on a plane to Mexico to do a press tour for Get Smart,” she says. “And then I spent a week in shock at a friend’s house…It’s a situation where the rug was pulled out from under me all of a sudden. But just as suddenly, my friends threw another rug back under me. One said, ‘Go stay at my house.’
A ton of celebrities attaneded the DNC last night. Oprah stated, “I cried my eyelashes off. I think it’s the most powerful thing I have ever experienced.”

On the entertainment effect on politics:
“I think the entertainment industry has all good intentions when we try to come out. The thing that is unfortunate is that some of us who are maybe a little recognizable, we’ve got to come out as private citizens and support our country in any way that we can.”
On Barack Obama:
I was kind of afraid of Obama the first time I saw him. I thought, I’ve been burned by guys like you before. I’ve been burned by politicians before that I wanted to believe in and just didn’t live up to it. And I was afraid to trust him and I was afraid to have hope when I first kind of became aware of him.
Anne Hathaway’s break-up is one of the most talked about stories this summer and for some reason it had not made the main cover of a celebrity weekly until this week.
The main picture is stunning with great eye contact and the inset of Anne kissing her “con man” makes this cover unstoppable.
The insets are all strong, from the Madonna inset, to the Chris Evert wedding album, to the HSM 3 preview.
What’s interesting is that Us Weekly went for the Madonna split story (which is still very much in question) while People went for the sure thing with Hathaway.
Bottom Line: Expect another big week for People as it continues to steamroll over the competition this summer.

As CoverAwards reported yesterday, the longtime boyfriend of “Get Smart” star Anne Hathaway was busted by the feds yesterday for allegedly swindling investors out of millions of dollars by convincing them he had the Vatican’s backing to flip Catholic Church properties in the United States.
According to the NY Post, the following are excerpts from the complaint:
