IT’S OFFICIAL: Bauer Publishing Names Dan Wakeford Editor in Chief of Life & Style Weekly

Bauer Publishing’s CEO Hubert Boehle just confirmed to CoverAwards what was predicted in today’s New York Post.

Life & Style has a new editor-in-chief and it’s In Touch (Bauer sister title) veteran Dan Wakeford, replacing Donna Armstrong.

“Dan is a seasoned celebrity journalist with a proven track record for success. The fact that he’s already well-known and respected amongst the Life & Style team, made the decision to appoint him editor-in-chief even easier,” Hubert Boehle, Bauer Publishing CEO, told CoverAwards.

“I’m hugely excited to be in the driving seat at Life & Style and work with the talented team. I’m looking forward to taking the magazine into its next phase,” Dan Wakeford, editor-in-chief, Life & Style, told CoverAwards.

Finally! A Facebook Group for Former Life & Style Editor-in-Chiefs

With Life & Style hiring its fifth EIC in 4 years, there’s now a new Facebook group dedicated to its former leaders.

Does anybody have Sheryl Berk’s email? And, has anybody heard from Debra? Anybody see Richard today - or any day? The group is officially accepting members as we speak! The first meeting is scheduled to be held at Grissini’s and there will be lots and lots of red vino.

If you’ve held a high-level position and have basically been running the magazine (that’s most of you), but have been passed over for the top spot - you are also welcome to join the group.

P.S. The first 100 members are receiving free t-shirts! (We’re still working on the design but you’re welcome to submit ideas.)

TURMOIL AT LIFE & STYLE: Blame the Covers — Not Gas Prices

As CoverAwards shared with you earlier via Jossip, today, Life & Style Weekly named a new editor in chief.

In today’s tough economy, it’s easy to blame soaring gas prices on the fact the magazines are not flying off the newsstands like they used to.

In the end, as we’ll see by People Magazine’s numbers in August, it’s about…

KRISTIN CHENOWETH SECRETS REVEALED!

On her “inner light” Kristin Chenoweth says, “People always ask me, ‘Why are you so happy? Jeez! Wipe the smile off your face.’ But if I have a glow and people ask why, that gives me a great opportunity to talk about my faith and say, ‘This is what I have and this is what works for me.’”

Kristin Chenoweth spills her seven secrets to true happiness in the new issue of First magazine.

  1. “Coincidence” is never random
  2. Everything is a risk
  3. Give in to that crappy day
  4. You can’t live your life in fear
  5. Know your purpose
  6. You don’t need an appointment to pray
  7. Embrace whatever gifts God gave you

It’s a “Happy” Ellen Degeneres

CAROL BROOKS’ FIRST MAGAZINE FEATURES OPENLY GAY ELLEN DEGENERES!

first.jpg

Kudos to First’s Editor-in-Chief Carol Brietzke Brooks!

It’s great to see Ellen DeGeneres as the main cover image of First Magazine.   Ellen made a huge comeback with her daytime talkshow after coming out to the world and telling everyone she’s gay on her self-titled show.

With the new issue of First Magazine, you’ll find out Ellen’s “Happy” Secrets!  (No, happy is not code word for gay, silly.)   I’m sure we’ll find out some great tips though since Ellen does seem pretty happy most of the time.

On a side note, I once walked Ellen down the red carpet when I was in PR working for MTV and she was awesome.   She had been through so much but represents how important it is to believe in yourself and never let any one hold you back!  Another reason why she’s a great choice for this cover of First Magazine.

The main cover line of this issue of First is “Your Metabolism Unleashed.”  It appears directly over Ellen, which throws this cover off a bit.   It’s clear that Ellen is not someone battling weight issues so the line doesn’t work with the main image.  This confusing layout will hurt First on the newsstands.
