ELLE EXCLUSIVE: Why Charlize Theron Fell for Stuart Townsend

This is the most stunning photo of Charlize Theron I’ve seen on a cover this year.

She opens up about her relationship with Stuart Townsend in the new issue of Elle UK and says, “The most amazing thing about Stuart is he got through to me on a level that no one else did…Stuart made me softer. He was one of the few guys who wasn’t afraid of me.

What he saw was not toughness but vulnerability. I am massively vulnerable, and for so long I just worked hard to cover that up. Stuart wasn’t scared to confront that. He is the one man who never worries about kicking me up the backside. It’s a good thing.”

CHARLIZE THERON & JACK NICHOLSON SHARE WHAT IN COMMON?

“The truth is, women are way more complex and conflicted than society wants to believe,” says Theron in GQ UK.

“Men are celebrated for showing their flaws, exposing themselves. But if a woman does it, it’s not likeable and nobody’s going to want to see it, because it’s not pretty. I’d never seen a woman do anything like this [her role in Monster], and it sacred the shit out of me. This was the kind of shit Jack Nicholson gets to do.”

In fact, Monster almost didn’t make it to theaters and Charlize stills feels great about the movie’s success.

“The night I won the Academy Award, then of course everybody comes out of the dark like, ‘Yeah! We knew it! We always knew it was great!’ It’s like, ‘Shut the fuck up. No you didn’t.’

IS CHARLIZE THERON LUCKY?

“I feel so blessed,” says Charlize Theron in the new GQ UK.

“And I don’t take any of this for granted, because I know there are people out there more talented than me who’ve not had my opportunities. There’s not a day when I don’t feel lucky,” says Theron.

Charlize Theron talks about Stuart Townsend and says the relationship is “purely primal.”

Asked by W about her seven year affair with the Irish actor, Charlize said, “Man, woman. Like to touch each other.”

On marriage, she said, “I always knew that I didn’t want to get married. And on babies, “I’ve always know that I’d be a mom from the time I was a little girl.”
