UDPATE: MSNBC’S Chris Matthews Denies Reports That He’s Running For Senate

FiveThirtyEight had confirmed that MSNBC’s Chris Matthews will run for United States Senate in Pennsylvania in 2010.

Matthews, 62, will run as a Democrat. Arlen Specter, the aging Republican incumbent, will be 80 if he chooses to run for re-election.

Update:

Chris Matthews has denied this report that he’s hiring staff for a Senate campaign in a statement posted on FiveThirtyEight.com, the site that originally reported the news. “It is absolutely not true,” said Matthews, in a statement.

Women’s Group Goes After Chris Matthews

Last month, New Agenda, a non-partisan women’s group, began trying to get Chris Matthews fired for sexist on-air behavior.

The group has now sent a letter to NBC Universal head Jeff Zucker asking for a “a meeting to discuss Matthews’ attitude toward women,” reports the LA Times.

JEFF ZUCKER: I Think Keith Olbermann Is Good For The Network

When asked during a conference whether MSNBC was benefiting from its left wing bias, NBC President and CEO Jeff Zucker stated, “15 months ago, you wouldn’t have even asked me about MSNBC, so I think we’ve made great progress…clearly, it has struck a chord with the audience.”

MSNBC had previously removed Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews from anchoring the RNC.  So what does Jeff think of Keith?

Inside The MSNBC Shake-Up

Phil Griffin, the president of cable-news network MSNBC, is getting sick of defending his decision to replace Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews with David Gregory as anchor for big political events.

Griffin is claiming that a report from the New York Post, which stated that the change came from Jeffrey Immelt, CEO of NBC’s parent company General Electric, after “a lot, maybe thousands” of shareholders had called up to complain about Olbermann during the DNC and RNC, is categorically false.

“This makes me so mad, because it’s so untrue,” Griffin said. “Somebody is spreading rumors. It’s wrong. It’s getting into the echo chamber.”
