ESQUIRE MAGAZINE Endorses Barack Obama for President

In its November issue, Esquire endorses Barack Obama.

Inside the issue, there will be “a thoughtful, lengthy, slightly intemperate piece of writing, and by no means hagiographic. The endorsement expresses our frustrations with Obama’s candidacy and his campaign at least as much as it makes the case for what it is we hope he can accomplish.

David Granger Unveils Esquirer’s Electronic Paper Issue: Marks Magazine’s Historic 75th Anniversary

CoverAwards’ attended the much anticipated release of Esquire’s 75th anniversary issue, which features special electronic ink.

It’s hard to tell by the above image - but the box above the 75th issue is flashing. Check out this youtube image to see the image in action.

According to Esquire, the battery life was supposed to last up to 90 days originally - but will now last up to eight months.

When the battery dies, a permanent image will apparently appear.  I’ll have to wait and see.

Cover price for this special issue is $5.99 up from the normal $3.99 issue.

The big theme for this issue is that the 21st century starts now.

David Granger told CoverAwards that this “starts now” theme reflects the issues that are happening in society, from the election to the feeling that somethings about to happen.

Esquire’s Blinking Cover Hits Newsstands

Esquire Magazine: Notice Something Different?

Pretty cool.

Esquire uses a handwritten font for its cover.

It’s a departure from its previous look.

What do you think?

P.S. Not a bad picture of Tom Brady either.  See what he has to say when asked “why should people care about football at all?”

BARACK OBAMA’S SWEETEST MOMENT…

barackesquire.jpg

How sweet!

The day after announcing for president in February 2007, Obama greeted a crowd in Chicago.

His daughter Sasha, trying to get her father’s attention, shouted, “I love you, Daddy!”

DOES JESSICA SIMPSON STILL LOVE JOHN MAYER?

esquiresimpson.jpg

Maybe just a little?

In the May issue of Esquire, Jessica talks about the most romantic thing a guy has ever done and she talks about John Mayer writing a song for her!

“Even though you can tell she’s foreseeing a shit-storm, she recites her favorite lines,” says the mag.

Um?  Isn’t Jessica dating Tony Romo.  And how sad that Nick never wrote a song for her?

CAN JESSICA SIMPSON BECOME MORE POPULAR THAN SISTER ASHLEE?

esquiresimpson.jpg

Jessica Simpson - who used to be the celebrity weekly favorite cover girl (along with Nick of course) is ready for a big public comeback!

It’ll be tough competing against her now enganged and possibly pregnant sister Ashlee!  (My money is on Jess!)

“I’ve come to realize that the more I censor myself, the less people relate to me,” says Simpson in the new issue of Esquire.  (She meant to say CARE about her.)

“I went through period in my life where I kept to myself, this last year and a half.  And this is the first time, as I’m making my country album right now, I’ve had to just lay it all out there and go to that place where I’m comfortable saying, ‘here’s my world, come back in.’  I’ve tried to fit in other shoes, and it just doesn’t work out.”

IS JESSICA SIMPSON JEALOUS OF SCARLETT JOHANSSON?

esquiresimpson.jpg

Well, maybe a little!

When asked in Esquire who she’s most jealous of in Hollywood, she “took an excruciatingly long time” to answer…She names Scarlett Johansson, who has been tapped by Woody Allen in several movies.

How Esquire Got Its National Magazine Award Nomination!

esquire.jpg

Portfolio’s Jeff Bercovici breaks news on how David Granger’s Esquire avoided a major embarrassment.

Apparently, “another magazine had submitted the same material twice (for the National Magazine Awards), in two different categories, in violation of ASME rules.  The duplication wasn’t discovered until late in the day on Tuesday, the final day of judging; when it was, the entry in question was disqualified, and Esquire — which had just missed the cut — was promoted to finalist.
