John McCain Will Debate

Senator John McCain’s campaign said Friday morning that he will attend tonight’s debate with Senator Barack Obama at the University of Mississippi, reversing his earlier call to postpone the debate so he could participate in the Congressional negotiations over the $700 billion bailout plan for financial firms, reports the NY Times.

Will the Debates Go On Tonight? Do You Think McCain Should Show Up?

Frank Fahrenkopf, co-chairman of the Commission on Presidential Debates, tells Tam Cam that he will know by noon if he will participate in the debate.

If he does not show up, there will be no debate because it is an ‘illegal contribution.’

Obama Willing To Debate Minus McCain

Barack Obama has stated that the debate will go on even if McCain does not show up!

In McCain’s absence, Obama is willing to make the scheduled debate a townhall meeting, a one-on-one interview with NewsHour’s Jim Lehrer, or the combination of the two, the official said.

John McCain has asked to have the debates suspended due to the economic crisis. 

A senior Obama campaign official said Obama “intends to debate.”

“The debate is on,” a senior Obama campaign official told ABC News.
