FLASHBACK: DREW BARRYMORE & JUSTIN LONG IN HAPPIER TIMES

I really thought they would last - or not!

Drew Barrymore and Justin Long have broken up, her rep confirms to People.

“I can confirm the split with no additional comment,” said the spokesperson.

In the March issue of Vogue, Barrymore said, “My cheeks hurt, I’m so happy.”

Pasetsky’s Cover Critique

How do you know that Richard Spencer’s In Touch had a strong sale last week?

Well, they basically have the same story this week.

In case you don’t feel like clicking through, In Touch reported that Tom & Katie were dunzo.  (Inside the mag, the story detailed how the fairytale was over.)

So this week we find out….

CRITIQUE: Here’s What Happens When People Magazine Doesn’t Spend Over A Million Dollars on a Cover Photo

This is the WORST People Cover I’ve Seen in a Long Time!

peopledrew.jpg

What is going on at People Magazine this week?

Following the strong Nicole Richie cover, this is what they came up with???   This goes to show you that eventually People is SCREWED.  Why?  They have strong sales when they pay one million dollars or more for exclusive photos.   When they don’t spend that money they come up with stories like this one!

The main line “Drew Barrymore–New Body, True Love!” is totally wacky and doesn’t work!

Why?  Drew’s body looks the same to me.  Of course, People has no before picture on the cover so I wouldn’t know if she lost weight.

“True Love!” Does anybody care?   It’s not like Drew has been single FOREVER!  Her boyfriend Justin Long must be pretty happy today!   He’s probably thinking ”I can’t f%&king believe I’m on the cover of People Magazine!”

In other non-news, People puts that awful “Moment of Truth” show on its cover.   Are they kidding me?

This smells like a newsstand stinker to me!

Will Ellen Page Win the Oscar?

interview.jpg

It’s a big weekend for Interview’s covergirl Ellen Page, who is up for a 2008 Academy Award for her role as a pregnant teen in the independent hit Juno.   Drew Barrymore, who has had her share of troubles growing up in Hollywood interviews the young star, and coincidentally we find out “Why She’s (Ellen’s) Not Like the Rest.”

Drew’s Beautiful Cover Pose on Vogue

She REALLY Looks AMAZING!

drew.jpg

What a beautiful picture of Drew Barrymore.   It almost doesn’t look like her!   It’s as if she posed for a painting and the lush green background gets me in the mood for spring.   It’s wonderful how the art director coordinated the colors together to make this such a striking cover, from Drew’s dress, her lipstick to the logo.

In today’s day in age, why can’t all covers look this way?   For example, let’s discuss the celebrity weekly category.  Each of the weeklies has access to state-of-the-art production facilities, glossy paper, and vast libraries of celebrity photos.

Oh wait a minute!   Vogue performed an ACTUAL photo shoot and spent money on this.  That could explain it!   One can dream.

Star Brings Back Mary-Kate and Ashley!

star.jpg

Earlier this week, I predicted that one of the weeklies would focus on Mary-Kate Olsen.  Star took my advice!   I know you believe me, but click here if you need proof.

She’s on this week’s cover - with sister Ashley - and there’s a really good reason for this.  Obviously, Mary-Kate’s relationship with the late Heath Ledger brings her back into the celebrity weekly spotlight.  And a few years back, Mary-Kate and Ashley were one of the biggest sellers on the newsstand, especially when Mary-Kate was looking too skinny for her own good.

Move to the side bar and you’ll see the magazine’s back-up cover story broken down in two insets.   First, you have poor Britney’s torment in the psych ward followed by pregnant Jamie Lynne out and partying.  Wow!  This would have been the perfect split cover (Britney on the left, Lynne bubbled in the middle, and Jamie Lynne on the right.)  Unfortunately for Star, this would have been too close to the cover of  its sister publication, The National Enquirer,  from last week.
