Elon Musk, Spacex Founder and CEO, says in Fortune the worst advice he received was from his parents.

“My parents advised me to ignore bullies.  That doesn’t work.  You have to punch them in the nose,” says Musk.

TINA FEY GOT THE BEST ADVICE FROM WATCHING OPRAH!

In the current cover story of Fortune, Fey says “About 15 years ago I saw an Oprah show where she said, ‘Always be the only person who can sign your checks.’”

And that line has always been a reminder for Fey.

“Today, as much as it makes me super-sleepy, I pay attention when my business manager talks to me about money. 

He talks to me about taxes, and I get really, really sleepy.  But I listen,” says Fey.

CRAIGLIST FOUNDER CRAIG NEWMARK SAYS…

The best advice he received was to use my dry sense of humor to help diffuse the atmosphere. 

“In business there are times when you disagree, and sometimes it turns out that you’re just plain wrong. 

Humor takes away tension and helps you realize you’re wrong,” says Newmark.

BOB IGER SAYS HIS DAD GAVE HIM THE BEST ADVICE…

Bob Iger, President and CEO, Walt Disney, said that his father wrote in his sixth-grade yearbook quoting Hamlet — Polonius to his son, Laertes:

“To thine own self be true.” 

I was 12 years old but it had a powerful impression on me then, and I’ve often thought of it since,” says Iger.
