Nick Denton’s empire continues to contract in these difficult economic times.

Owen Thomas, managing editor of Silicon Valley gossip blog gossip blog Valleywag, confirmed Tuesday that the gossip site is being folded into Gawker, Valleywag parent company Gawker Media’s flagship site.

JULIA ALLISON SCORES WIRED COVER

Everyone’s favorite controversial self-promoter and Gawker star subject has pulled a major coup with this cover of Wired magazine.

While the cover line isn’t flattering (even if you’re nobody), the inside piece focuses on how Julia Allison is launching her own web portal nonsociety.com - and began developing content: lip-sync videos and a talk-show series modeled after The View.

The magazine also reveals Allison trick to self-promotion, which is to think of herself as the subject of a magazine profile, with every blog post or twitter update adding dimension to her character.

HOW MUCH SHOULD BLOGGERS GET PAID?

It’s still the wild west when it comes to the world of blogging!

And there really is no set payment model to follow.

One that has been made public is Nick Denton’s efforts over at Gawker Media.

Last week, Jordan Golson, who blogs for Valleywag, actually complained online that his pay rate was being changed, but he didn’t know the new rate.

A STRANGE GAWKER SIGHTING SUPPORTING JANICE MIN

Last week Gawker posted a link to Salon’s piece on the end of the Golden Age of Celebrity Gossip.  Part of the end of “the Golden Age” was attributed to people like Janice Min.

So, yesterday a reporter from Gawker was at a local newsstand buying cigarettes and two young girls about eight years old apparently pointed to the Lauren Conrad cover and wanted to buy the mag, but sadly didn’t have enough money. 

(We all know at this point that this cover is completed made-up according to LC herself!)

The Gawker reporter’s conclusion is that Janice knows what she’s doing - because of this focus group of two.  Um, ok?

Breaking Cover News: Nicole Richie’s Baby Pics Sold for $1 Million

Time Inc’s People Magazine has secured the first pictures of Nicole Richie’s baby, Harlow. The winning bid: $1m, according to someone who participated in the auction, as reported by Gawker.com.   For the complete story click here!   They are also hearing that People and OK!
