Globe follows last week’s National Enquirer story and does it better.
As you may remember, the National Enquirer announced that they were revealing Bill Clinton’s mistress. I thought they were talking about Gina Gershon but it was in fact a woman named Julie McMahon.
What makes this cover better?

The death of Tim Russert is still shocking.
With all the celeb weeklies closing their issues today, many will be deciding how to treat the story on their covers.
While Tim wasn’t your typical “celebrity weekly” subject, his untimely death is what everyone in the country is talking about.
I believe that People magazine will make this story its main cover on Wednesday. This wouldn’t surprise me at all.
There’s also a slight chance that In Touch Weekly could go for this story. However, the magazine has not had much success covering stories outside the celebrity arena. The mag had dismal sales when it covered the Virginia tech shootings.
I expect either the Globe or the National Enquirer to feature Tim on their cover — most likely the National Enquirer.
Each of the weeklies will at least have an inset on their cover.

I hope that’s not true! Paul Newman is one of the greatest actors of our time and if this is true, that would be very sad.
In terms of the other stories, the Globe features two items on the baseline that caught my attention.
David Archuleta “Tormented by Bully Dad.” Poor kid. He was on Star Search and now he’s under the gun on American Idol. I hope his Dad isn’t one of those over-demanding types that’s putting all this pressure on him. You knows what happens to kids when they’re raised by these types of parents! (They shave their heads and enter rehab!)
Dancing with the Stars’ Priscilla Presley is in a LOVE TRIANGLE. You know Star did well last week if the Globe used this LOVE TRIANGLE line!
And for country fans, Garth & Trisha Split! The evidence on the cover is the famous “NO RING!” pic.
Bottom Line: Much better than last week’s cover!
P.S. Is there some magical formula that Globe is using by putting American Idol on the bottom left hand side of its cover?
