GRAZIA’S COVER DESIGNED BY A TWO-YEAR OLD?

gravia.JPG

I don’t understand what Grazia magazine is thinking when it comes to design.

It’s completely amateurish and doesn’t look like an upscale magazine at all - which is what they are positioned as in the UK.

As for the cover line, it’s totally weak!   And you can barely read it!

Grazia’s Cameron Diaz Cover!

Grazia’s cover line definitely grabbed my attention.

However, which ex is the mag talking about?

Plus, it’s a question so in the end I don’t believe the mag will have the answer.

On the design front, Grazia continues to put out the most horrific looking covers.

Angelina Jolie’s Wedding

DO PEOPLE IN THE UK ACTUALLY BUY GRAZIA?
gravia.JPG

Grazia is a total mess.

From a design stand-point, they cut off Angelina on so many parts of her body it’s unbelievable.

The main story is stupid!  “Angelina’s Secret Ocean Wedding!”   It’s probably such a big secret that Angelina doesn’t even know about the wedding.

Finally, where’s Brad in this story?  Or is Angelina marrying herself?

AWARD: Weak Cover Line of the Day!

Victoria “Close to Collapse.”  My first question is why and Grazia provides no details.   I simply don’t believe this story.  The picture doesn’t help either because Victoria looks perfectly healthy!

On another note, the design of Grazia keeps getting worse and worse.   What is going on over there?   Victoria’s head is trapped between the logo and the sidebars cut off her body.

LAYOUT TIP: Show Before & After Pics for Weight Loss Stories!

Another new feature today on CoverAwards!   Can you handle it?

Well, welcome to Layout Tip!  If I see a layout that sucks or is good, I’d like to point it out so you can incorporate (or not) into your cover layouts.

Exhibit A is Grazia.  The cover of this issue feature not one, but two weight loss stories.  (Believe it or not, the Amy story is not one of them!)

On the left you have Posh and the top right there’s Courteney Cox.   Here’s the layout tip!  If you are doing any type of weight loss story, show me a before picture PLEASE!  Otherwise, the reader has a hard time believing the story.  Especially the Courteney Cox story.  Yes, she looks skinny but not that skinny!

Try it, and you’ll see the difference!

Grazia Misses the Obvious!

OMG - Look at Posh’s neck!  Does she look super skinny or what?

And, the big news is that this is the” BIG” fashion issue for Grazia.  But the cover looks anything BUT fashionable.

What type of design is this?  It looks like Posh is trapped between the two sidebars!  Can she be saved???  Plus, I know it’s Victoria.  You don’t have to make her name so damn big!

Trend Alert: Fashion Insets on UK’s Celebrity Weekly Covers

Love it or Hate it?

grazia.JPG

look_012908.jpg

Yes, it’s been tried here in the U.S.  But, today in the UK, it’s a major trend and it’s looking forced!

Grazia, which likes to position itself as an upscale weekly, looks anything but that, as the picture of jeans cut off half of Angelina’s body.

With Look magazine, Lily is almost overwhelmed by the fashion sidebar.

Do readers want their gossip with their fashion from their weekly magazines or will they stick to the monthlies?  What do you think?

What a Mess!

grazia2.jpg

For a magazine with an elegant name like Grazia,  the cover looks like a complete disaster!   The jeans are cutting right into Angie’s boobs and her head is TRAPPED in between the logo.   An added bonus - she’s smiling at poor Heath Ledger!

Grazia Hopes Jen Aniston Found Her Baby Daddy!

grazia1.jpg

The cover line of Grazia leaves me asking so what?   And I believes the readers — even in the UK — feel the same way at this point!   BTW — did they put the IVF nightmare line on Jen’s leg on purpose, while it’s clearly a separate story?

Overall, I like the layout — especially the angled sidebar on the right.  But the products blocking Jen are disturbing.

Grazia: Posh’s American Dream!

grazia.jpg

Posh is still a cover icon in the UK tabloids - no surprise there? Grazia Editor-in-Chief Jane Bruton certainly thinks the Spice Girl’s diet is interesting, saying “we couldn’t survive on Victoria Beckham’s strict white-fish-and-spinach regime.”

I don’t think Victoria and hot hubby David Beckham will ever make it to the U.S. celeb weekly covers — unless of course - they get into some major scandal!
