My immediate reactions:

Not the best picture of Reese Witherspoon.  (Is she starting to look like Madonna or is that just me?)

What a strange headline?!? (Back on Top)

It appears like this is a trade cover at first glance vs a celebrity weekly.  The dek saves it a little but I’m not sure if the main line will grab the average newsstand buyer.

Many readers do like Reese but not so sure how much they care about her relationship with Jake.

“Family is all we have in life, but I don’t know how I feel about marriage,” says the Reese Witherspoon in the upcoming issue of Parade Magazine.

Reese has been dating Jake Gyllenhaal off-and-on since last year.

“Obviously, I’m not far enough out of being married to think about doing it again. You sort of reconstitute your family. You find a family with people who come into your life for a reason.”

Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal are not engaged, according to their reps.

“They are not engaged, getting married or any of the reports,” the reps said this evening, calling the reports “lies.”

Do you believe the rep? Or do you think they are simply trying to keep their plans a secret?

It’s getting very serious for Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon, according to the Daily Mail, is to marry Jake Gyllenhaal at the end of 2008.

Us Weekly features Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon on its cover looking at trip vacation pics.

Hey, that could be me!

This cover is what Us Weekly is all about.

Stars really are like us. (Bonnie Fuller created that vision for Us Weekly and Janice Min continues to ride on her coattails.)

In the past, I haven’t been a fan of this story because I don’t think a lot of readers are talking about this couple.

But this cover photo is a winner and will walk off the newsstand. And, in the celebrity weekly category newsy photos like this are rare.

On another note, you can tell that the In Touch and Us Weekly did not have strong sales with the Madonna-A-Rod covers from last week.

Just asking ’cause I don’t get how she gets on so many covers.  She’s totally boring.

If you notice, the editors try to lure you to buy this issue by saying how she’s talking about her more famous brother Jake Gyllenhaal, momhood and OMG Heath Ledger.  (That’s just wrong to use his name like this.  I think.)

There’s not one interesting thing mentioned about Maggie Gyllenhaal on the cover.

Bottom Line: There’s no heat here and this issue will not sell on newsstands.

Us Weekly Features Reese & Jake!  Will Anyone Care?

Janice Min followed up last week’s FAKE cover on Lauren Conrad with “Reese’s Untold Love Story.”

Reese Witherspoon is always a go to star for Janice Min and this photo of Reese and Jake Gyllenhaal must have made her get back on the Reese bandwagon.

It’s intimate and really shows them as a couple.  But, unfortunately for Us Weekly this won’t help it on the newsstand.   The competition is way too strong this week — as we’ve already seen by In Touch and Star!
