Click here to purchase the new issue of Portfolio

The latest Portfolio features NBC’s chief honcho Jeff Zucker and asks what’s his plan.

In the end, it’s all about multi-platform programming.

But for now, I bet Jeff Zucker isn’t worried.

The Olympics are scoring record ratings:

PORTFOLIO’S STRIKING COVER TECHNIQUE

Why doesn’t every magazine place the page numbers on its cover the same way Portfolio is doing with its new issue featuring Barry Diller?

DOES TINA FEY HAVE A BIG BRAIN?

portfoliolightbulb.jpg

Yes!

According to the new issue of Portfolio, Tina Fey quit Saturday Night Live in 2006 to create, produce, and star in NBC’s 30 Rock.

During her nine-year tenure at SNL - widely known as a boys club - Fey became its first female head writer and pushed other women in the cast into recurring roles while becoming an audience favorite herself.

And during the writer’s strike, she became a central figure standing up for the writers.

Not to mention, Fey added another successful notch to her belt with the success of her recent movie “Baby Mama.”

OPRAH WINFREY MAKES ANOTHER LIST!

portfoliolightbulb.jpg

The one and only Oprah is on Portfolio’s list of “Biggest Brains.”

Disney CEO Bob Iger says, “She [Oprah] has perfect pitch about what is good, interesting, and relevant.”

It takes a certain kind of brilliance to see that launching the talk-show careers of Dr. Phil and Rachel Ray might go beyond being simply relevant, in Iger’s phrase, and deliver hundreds of millions in revenue.

If you live in downtown NYC, you can’t miss one of Marc Jabobs’ stores.

And Portfolio’s new issue names him one of the 73 biggest brains in business.

“By the time everyone catches up to his latest look, Marc Jacobs has often moved on.

He has made a career of reinventing himself, both in his designs and in his evolving personal style, which the fashion world pays almost as much attention to.”

PORTFOLIO REPORTS ON GENDER NEWS IN THE OFFICE!

port.jpg

Joanne Lipman’s Portfolio Magazine comes out with a strong visual cover for its in-depth report on women’s progress in the workplace.

The striking red high heal shoe being held down by the men’s black lace-up shoe tells the whole story.

According to Portfolio, “After 10 years of progress, women’s gains at work have come to a baffling halt.”

There are so many interesting details in the cover story on why women are still not receiving equal treatment.  Here’s an excerpt from the interview with Senior chairman and chief headhunter Gerry Roche, of Heidrick & Struggles.

Portfolio Forcing Writers to Sign Contracts?

port.jpg

Late Breaking News for a Friday Afternoon:  Gawker is reporting that Joanne Lipman’s Portfolio is “pushing its staff writers into contracts.  Currently, writers at the magazine are considered full-time and get appropriate benefits. That would change if they became independent contractors who regularly write for the magazine.”

If they force you into signing this and you lose your benefits, definitely start looking for a new job IMMEDIATELY.   If you can’t find something great, than at least freelance on the side.

Portfolio: Paranoid Cover Award

Is Portfolio’s Editor-in-Chief Joanne Lipman trying to scare me?  I’m glad I’m safe and sound here - I think???  I  would suggest a clearer cover line.  I’m not so sure ” Spy vs. Spy”  makes sense.  In the end, at least Portfolio lightens the cover up with a story about Will Ferrell!
