Buried at the bottom of today’s Wall Street Journal story on the evolution of news magazines is a sad testimony on the state of newsweeklies - Newsweek in particular.

“At a recent speech at Columbia University, Newsweek EIC John Meacham delivered a blistering response after he asked who reads Newsweek and none of the 100-odd students in attendance raised their hands,” reports the WSJ.

Newsweek distributed the following statement yesterday regarding the 111 staffers leaving the mag (See my comments in CAPS):

Confronting the challenges in today’s media climate, we recently offered a voluntary retirement program to some of our employees. (WE ARE TOTALLY F*(K*D CUZ NO ONE IS BUYING OUR MAGAZINE.)
